Kimberley Trip
That was quite the trip- 2 weeks travelling the rugged Gibb River Road, diverting to wonderful waterholes, exploring gorges, star filled nights. And most certainly an escape from winter. The highlight for me was definitely the Bungle Bungles and El Questro Gorge. My birthday helicopter flight over the Bungles was amazing. It was difficult to choose the most popular swim of the trip, the one here was our first and hence very welcome one. Click here for the full blog.
2008 Trips
The serious walking season is about to begin. Due to many cancellations there are several places left on most trips. There are spaces on both Cape to Capes, Albany to Denmark and the second Walpole to Denmark. So if you want to be a part of any of these great trips, act now! As many of you know I'm still struggling with achilles tendon problems and so won't be doing much walking this season. However I have some great replacements. I've got Dawn Green, from Busselton, who has guided in Canada and has been guiding at Leeuwin Lighthouse and Ngilgi Cave, taking one of the Cape to Cape walks, while Adrian Carrier (who has hiked the Cape to Cape as many times as I have) taking the other one. Bob Coops will be helping me out on the Bibbulmun hikes. And I will still be there. cracking the whip!
Now, I am seriously thinking I will be taking next year off, in an attempt to allow my tendons to heal. So... another reason to tackle these hikes this year!!! Check out www.inspirationoutdoors.com.au for all the trip information.
Anyone who has already booked on these walks, please note your final payments are due this month. Sooner rather than later is a great help to me as I get all the admin out of the way before the walks start.
Northern Wildflowers
I've just come back from a quick trip to the Mullewa area to see the best wildflowers in many years. Wreath flowers, everlastings and lots more. If you can spare a couple of days, go NOW! Note that accommodation is tricky; there's not much available and it's heavily booked at the moment. We had planned to meander home via the Ninghan area, but had to keep driving home as there was nowhere to stay. Best to take camping gear! Click here to see the flowers with locations.
Dwellingup Delights
We had 2 great weekends at Dwellingup. Fantastic weather, good walks and (hopefully) good food. Banksia Springs is always a terrific place to stay. Thanks to Bob and Guy who guided the walks. We had lots of fun on both weekends, with the Northam girls entertaining us on one and many regulars and their friends on the second. Congratulations to 77 yr old Sheila who did not miss a beat on the 18km walk! And we were also very happy to have Sarah , who at 18, is the youngest ever on one of my walks! Sorry I didn't take many photos these weekends, but click here to see the few I took.
Trek the Trail
This is an annual event organised by the Shire of Mundaring. You can walk or cycle along the historic Railway Reserves Heritage trail in Mundaring, for about 7km. Along the way there are various entertainment and information sites. Click here for all the information. You end up at Mundaring Weir where is a celebration is planned. The event is free and the wildflowers should be great.
Epic Adventure
Some of you will have already met Guy Power from Epic Adventure. Guy has helped me out with some walks and paddle trips and he now has his own company called Epic Advenure. Although he specialises in training people for long distance endurance events in running, cycling, paddling and navigation, he also runs more leisurely mountain biking tours and instruction sessions. If you're interested in any of these click here or call him on 0407474659.
Glyde-In Community Centre
Don't forget that I run day trips for the Glyde-In Community Centre in Fremantle. Theses trips are open to anyone, click here to see their site or phone 93393964. These trips don't always make it to my website as you need to book through the Glyde-In. I've got quite a lot planned for them over summer.
