Champion in our ranks!

Emily, as a representative of the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC), recently competed in the Mountain Designs Bibbulmun Team Challenge run by the Bibbulmun Track Foundation.  The 'DECheads' took out first place in the Challenge, giving DEC its first ever win after competing for ten years.  The Challenge was an excellent team event which was fun as well as educational.  For anyone looking for a workplace or social group event next year, this one could be for you!  Check out http://www.bibbulmuntrack.org.au/Events/Team-Challenge.aspx for details.

The Pole Poll Results

Okay, here are the results are in for last month's Pole Poll.

Most people use two polls to help reduce the weight on their joints going down hill.  50% of respondents spent between $30-$50 per poll.  25% spent less than $30 and the rest used sticks from the bush!

Almost everybody who took the pole recommends the use of polls... no bias of course!

For the very best in pole performance, look for:

1. comfortable hand grips and straps to go around your wrist;

2. a 'basket' attachment for the base of the pole that will help you out in sand (or snow if you're somewhere colder than WA!);

3. telescopic poles - these allow you to modify the length of your poles when going up hills (shorter for more power) and down hills (longer poles wil help reduce stress on knee joints).  They're also handy when you need to pack them away in luggage or on your day-pack.

Please Sir, can I have some Moore... River Paddle?

Last week was Inspiration Outdoors' annual Moore River Paddle run by Pam. Thanks to all who came along.  By all accounts it was a great, and windy, day out!

Dont just take our word for it... Some recent customer testimonials

"The walk was beautiful and sometimes quite demanding. There was not a single thing I can think of that Emily and Simon could have done better. The beauty, the companionship, the food, the chalets were just exceptional. If you want to help kick your aging frame back into health, this is the company and these are the places. Emily and Simon have covered everything - safety, diet, food, comfort, and variable beauty with immense skill and thoughtfulness. Thank you all so very much."

- Nick, Walpole to Denmark 2011

"I travelled all the way from New Zealand to Western Australia in order to participate in the Cape to Cape Walk with Inspiration Outdoors.  I knew I had made the right decision as soon as I met Simon and Emily on Day One.  They were brilliant guides, knowledgeable and well organised, and they did everything possible to make the 135km Walk both achievable and enjoyable for everyone in the group. And achieve it and enjoy it we certainly all did!"

- Paul, Cape to Cape, 2011

"The whole trip was just fantastic, being disconnected from the world for a week, getting back to nature, laughing and discussing the day over dinner with a glass of wine and great company."

2012 Walking Tours

We will soon be announcing our full range of walking tours for 2012 including some exciting new tours!  Next year we still plan to run the popular Cape to Cape, Walpole to Denmark and Albany to Denmark tours, but will also run a Hybrid Cape to Cape/Bibbulmun Track tour, some Low Mileage tours for those who don't want to do the big km's, and a Best of the South Coast tour.

In 2013 we plan to offer a Kimberley Highlights tour but we'll head up there ourselves this coming winter to finalise our planning and reconnaissance.

Our first tours for next year are up on the website.  You can find more details by clicking on the links below.  These tours are fully supported, which means that each day we drive you to and from the track; feed you breakfast, morning tea, lunch and dinner; and provide comfortable off-track accommodation where you can relax and enjoy a shower and a warm bed each night.

Cape to Cape: complete an 'end-to-end' on this iconic coastal walk trail.  Eight day tour with seven days of walking.  Next tour 7th - 14th April 2012.  http://www.inspirationoutdoors.com.au/cape-to-cape-walking-tours.html

Come along to our famous Full Moon Paddle on Sunday December 11th 5pm to 9.30pm.  Pam will guide us gently down the Canning River, starting from Kent Street Weir, while we enjoy the sunset over the water.  As the moon rises we will stop for a finger food dinner then continue back to the start for coffee and cake.  Click the link to find out more: http://www.inspirationoutdoors.com.au/paddling-tours.html or contact us on inspirationoutdoors@gmail.com or 0411 813 117

Spring Tour Memories

Emily and Jane Scott on the Cape to Cape

We've just returned from the last of our spring walking tours for 2011.  Last week, and earlier this spring, we walked the beautiful Cape to Cape Track.  Earlier in November we also ran a tour on an amazing and challenging section of the Bibbulmun Track, between Walpole and Denmark. Great company as well as a hot shower, a delicious home cooked meals and a comfy bed each night made the walks all the better!

Thanks to all who participated for the fantastic experiences and memories!  We hope to see you again next year.  A special thanks to Pam Riordan for being the best ex-business owner a pair of new business owners could wish for!  We're eternally grateful for the opportunity to take care of Inspiration Outdoors and to help people have the best type of holiday around!

The Bush Philosopher

Every month get a slice of home made bush philosophy from Inspiration Outdoors...

This Month - Iron Awesome

I am not one to complain about youngsters' use of language.  It is just something that young people do.  They use language in different ways, and over time this changes the language in the greater context.

There is one word, however, I wish the kids had left alone.  The common use of the word awesome is now akin to something like good or great.  This is a great shame because the bluntening of this concept is at the heart of much discontent.  Sometimes I wonder if having access to "everything" on the internet is killing our sense of awe.  It is very hard to shock people now.

I hope the concept of awe can remain truly separate from good.  There is something amazingly humbling about the experience of having your breath taken away by natural beauty.  It illuminates a greater context to our very existence and reminds us of what it is to be human in an infinite universe.
